Spot Kick Tips: Corners, Curl and the Wall
How to score more in Spot Kick, the 3D penalty and free kick game: the swipe, the top bin, beating the keeper, curling round the wall and the wind.
Spot Kick is a football game of penalties and free kicks drawn in real 3D. You stand behind the ball, the goal and the keeper ahead of you, and one swipe sends the ball on its way: it flies with real air drag, curls with the spin you put on it, and can hit the post, the bar, the keeper, the wall or the back of the net. A round is ten kicks, five penalties and then five free kicks, and the score depends as much on where the goals go in as on how many you score. This guide covers the swipe, the scoring and the habits that turn a handful of goals into a big total.
How a round works
The first five kicks are penalties from the spot, eleven metres out, with only the keeper to beat. The next five are free kicks from seventeen to about twenty-seven metres, at different angles, with a wall of three to five defenders standing 9.15 metres from the ball between you and the near post. The keeper gets a little better with every kick, so kick ten is the hardest of the round.
A row of ten dots at the top of the screen shows your round: green for a goal, red for a miss, white for the kick you are taking. After the last kick the round ends with your total.
| What happens | Points |
|---|---|
| A goal | 100 |
| In the top bin (a top corner) | +120 |
| Low in a corner | +50 |
| High in the middle of the goal | +30 |
| A curler (strong spin on the ball) | +40 |
| A goal from a free kick | +60 |
| In off the post or the bar | +30 |
| All ten kicks scored | +300 |
The bonuses add up. A curling free kick into the top bin is 100 + 120 + 40 + 60 = 320 points, more than three plain penalties.
The swipe
Put your finger on or just below the ball and swipe towards the goal. Four things come from one swipe:
- Direction aims the kick. Swipe towards the corner you want.
- Length lifts the ball. A short swipe keeps it along the ground; a long one sends it high. Most top corner shots come from a swipe about half the height of the screen.
- Speed is power. A quick flick hits the ball hard, a slow drag rolls it. A hard shot gives the keeper less time, but it also rises less before it dips, so length and speed work together.
- Bend is curl. If your swipe bows out to one side instead of running straight, the ball spins and curls the other way in the air. A swipe that bulges to the left curls the ball to the right, like the inside of a right foot.
On a keyboard the arrow keys aim and lift the ball, and a line of dots shows where it will fly. A and D add curl in steps, and you hold Space for power: a meter rises and falls, and you let go at the height you want.
Penalties: go for the corners
From the spot the keeper can reach almost anywhere along the ground and most of the middle of the goal, but he cannot reach the very top corners in time. That is why the top bin is worth so much: it is the one place a well struck penalty is almost never saved. Aim just inside the post and lift the ball so it crosses the line about two metres up, under the bar.
The low corners are the next best option. A hard, low shot just inside the post is very difficult to stop even when the keeper guesses right, and it is worth 50 points on top of the goal. Shots down the middle are the riskiest: if the keeper stays up or reads you, he only has to stand still.
The keeper reads the kick, but not perfectly. On some kicks he guesses the wrong way and dives early; on others he reads the direction but misjudges the height. He gets sharper through the round, so take your biggest risks on the early penalties and play the percentages later.
Free kicks: over or round the wall
The wall stands on the line between the ball and the near post, and it jumps as you strike. A low drive at the near post will hit it almost every time. There are three ways past:
- Over and down. A long swipe lifts the ball over the wall; enough pace and it dips under the bar. Too much lift and it flies over. This works best from the closer free kicks.
- Round the outside. Aim outside the wall and curl the ball back in towards the near post. The keeper often leans the other way to cover the far side.
- The far side. Aim at the far post with curl that takes the ball away from the keeper. It is a longer flight, so the keeper has more time, but it is the side he cannot see coming over the wall.
From the longer free kicks, a hard straight shot rarely beats the keeper. Curl is what scores: the ball changes direction late, after the keeper has set his feet. Every curled goal also earns the 40 point curler bonus.

Wind in the daily challenge
In the daily challenge the wind blows on every kick; in free play it comes in for the free kicks. The dial at the top left shows its direction and strength. Wind matters more the longer the ball is in the air, so a lofted free kick from 25 metres can drift more than a metre while a low penalty barely moves. Aim slightly into the wind, or use it: a crosswind blowing towards the far post adds to a curler going the same way.
Modes and records
- Daily challenge: the same free kick spots, walls and wind for everyone that day, and the same keeper. Compare your score with friends.
- Free play: new spots and walls every round, with wind on the free kicks.
- Easy: no wind, a slower keeper and the path of the ball shown before you kick. A good place to learn how long and how fast a swipe needs to be.
Your best scores stay on the device you play on.
Quick checklist
- Penalties: top corners first, low corners second, never the middle.
- Free kicks: lift it over or curl it round; never drive it low at the wall.
- Bend your swipe for curl, and remember it curls the opposite way to the bulge.
- Check the wind before long kicks in the daily challenge.
- Take risks early in the round, when the keeper is weaker.

Questions and answers
Why did my free kick hit the wall?
The wall stands across the line to the near post and jumps as you kick. A low or flat shot towards that post will hit it. Lift the ball more, or aim outside the wall and curl it back in.
How do I curl the ball?
Bend your swipe. A swipe that bows out to the left curls the ball to the right, and a swipe that bows out to the right curls it to the left. On a keyboard, A and D add curl.
Can the keeper save a top corner shot?
Very rarely. He cannot reach the top corners in time, which is why the top bin is worth 120 extra points. Miss the target by a little, though, and the ball hits the bar or flies over.
