How to play
  • Each player gets seven cards (five with three or four players). On your turn ask one player for a rank you hold.
  • If they have any cards of that rank they hand them all over and you ask again. If not, you go fish: draw a card, and if it is the rank you asked for, ask again.
  • Four cards of a rank make a book, laid down at once. When all thirteen books are made, the most books wins.
  • Tap a rank in your hand, then the player to ask. Results are saved on this device.

About Go Fish

Go Fish is the first card game many people learn and still a good one for a table of two, three or four. Ask a player for a rank you hold; if they have it, it is yours and you ask again, and if not, go fish in the pond. Four of a rank make a book, and the most books wins. The robots play by what they can see, and Hard remembers what everyone has asked for. Play with friends on one phone, with a curtain between turns, or online with a link or a code.

Tips & strategy

  • Listen. When a player asks for sevens they hold at least one seven, and whoever answered “go fish” had none. Ask accordingly.
  • Ask for the rank you hold most of: three cards of a rank need only one more for a book.
  • With three or four players, ask the player with the most cards; they are the most likely to have what you want.
  • Try not to ask for a rank you only have one of unless you know who holds it: a miss tells the table what you have.

Go Fish: questions and answers

How many cards does each player get?

Seven with two players, five with three or four. The rest form the pond you fish from.

What if I draw the card I asked for?

You fished your wish: show it and take another turn.

What if I run out of cards?

You draw one from the pond at the start of your turn if any are left; otherwise your turn is skipped until the game ends.

When does the game end?

When all thirteen books are made, or when the pond is empty and nobody can ask for anything. The most books wins, and equal books is a draw.
