About Hoops
Hoops puts you on a basketball court in real 3D, a ball in your hands and sixty seconds on the clock. Drag up and let go: the ball flies on a true arc, rattles off the rim, kisses the glass or drops through with a swish, and the net swings. Every basket moves you to a new spot round the arc, a little further out, until you are shooting threes against a hoop that slides from side to side. Make three in a row and you catch fire for double points; a clean swish buys two extra seconds.
How to play Hoops
- Drag up anywhere on the court and let go to shoot. The length of the drag is the power: keep the marker in the green band of the meter. A sideways drag turns the shot.
- On a keyboard, the arrow keys (or A and D) aim; hold Space (or the Hold to shoot button) and let go when the power is right.
- A basket is two points, three from beyond the arc (the gold spot). Three in a row and you are on fire: double points until you miss. A swish, nothing but net, adds two seconds.
- After every basket the spot moves round the arc, a little further out; from the seventh the hoop slides. The daily challenge has the same spots and wind for everyone; scores stay on this device.
Tips & strategy
- Watch the power meter, not the hoop: the drag length that lands in the green band is the same from every spot, because the game adjusts the speed for the distance.
- Drag straight up. A small sideways wobble turns the shot, and from far away a few degrees is enough to miss the rim.
- In the daily challenge, look at the wind arrow before you shoot and turn the shot slightly into it; the further the spot, the more the wind moves the ball.
Hoops: questions and answers
How do I shoot on a phone?
Put your finger anywhere on the court, drag up and let go. The longer the drag, the harder the shot; the meter at the side turns green at the right power.
Why is it 3D?
Hoops is drawn with real 3D graphics in your browser, so the ball flies on a true arc and bounces off the rim, the glass and the floor the way a real ball would.
What does on fire mean?
After three baskets in a row the ball glows and every basket is worth double, until you miss.
