About Number Merge
Number Merge is a short, satisfying sliding puzzle on a four by four board. Every move slides all the tiles one way. When two tiles with the same number meet, they join into one tile worth their sum: two 2s make a 4, two 4s an 8, and so on up the powers of two. A new small tile appears after every move, so the board slowly fills. The classic goal is the 2048 tile, and the game ends when no move is left. The daily challenge gives everyone the same new tiles, so you can compare scores with friends.
How to play Number Merge
- Swipe, use the arrow keys or the on-screen arrows: every tile slides as far as it can that way.
- Two tiles with the same number that meet join into one with their sum, and the sum is added to your score. A tile joins only once per move.
- After every move a new 2 (sometimes a 4) appears in an empty square. The game ends when the board is full and no two neighbours match.
- Reach 2048 for the classic win, then keep going. The daily challenge gives everyone the same new tiles; scores stay on this device.
Tips & strategy
- Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile in it. Most good games use only two or three directions.
- Build a chain along one edge, each tile half the one before, so one move can join them all in a row.
- Avoid the move that pulls your big tile out of its corner, even if it joins something small.
- When the board is crowded, look for the move that joins the most tiles, not the biggest one.
Number Merge: questions and answers
Can I keep playing after 2048?
Yes. Reaching 2048 is the classic win, but the game goes on until no move is left, and every join still adds to your score.
How is the score counted?
Every join adds the new tile’s value to your score: joining two 8s adds 16, for example.
