About Snake
Snake is the little arcade game that once lived on every mobile phone, redrawn here for any browser. The snake never stops moving; your only job is to turn it. Each apple makes it a square longer and a touch faster, so the garden fills up and every turn matters more. After every fifth apple a golden apple appears for a few seconds and is worth five times as much, if you can reach it in time. The daily challenge scatters the same rocks for everyone, Classic is a clear garden with walls, and No walls lets the snake slip off one edge and back in on the other.
How to play Snake
- The snake keeps moving. Turn it with the arrow keys, a swipe, a tap beside its head or the on-screen arrows.
- Every apple makes the snake one square longer, scores 10 points and speeds it up a little. After every fifth apple a golden apple appears for a few seconds: it is worth 50.
- Hitting a wall, a rock or the snake’s own body ends the game. The daily challenge has the same rocks and apples for everyone; Classic has none, and in No walls the snake comes back on the other side.
- Scores and personal bests are saved on this device only.
Tips & strategy
- Stay near the walls early on and leave the middle open: a long snake needs room to turn.
- Plan the turn after next. With two quick key presses the snake makes a U-turn into the next lane.
- Ignore a golden apple on the far side of a crowded garden; ten safe points beat fifty that cost the game.
- In No walls, use the edges as shortcuts to apples on the other side.
Snake: questions and answers
How do I play on a phone?
Swipe on the garden in the direction you want to go, tap beside the snake’s head, or use the arrow buttons under the game.
Why did the snake not turn back?
A snake can never turn straight back into its own neck. Turn twice, once each way, to make a U-turn.
