Tips & strategy

  • Open with an equation that uses many different digits and two operators, such as 9×8−7=65.
  • Find where the equals sign goes early on; it fixes how many digits the result has.

Equation Guess: questions and answers

Which symbols can I use?

The digits 0 to 9, the operators + − × ÷ and exactly one equals sign.

Why was my guess not accepted?

Every guess must be a true equation of exactly eight characters, with a single whole number after the equals sign and no leading zeros.

How is Equation Guess ranked?

Fewest guesses first, then the fastest time.

Is the order of operations used?

Yes. Multiplication and division are worked out before addition and subtraction, from left to right, so 2+3×4 makes 14.
