About Letter Drop
Letter Drop hides a word of six to nine letters. Pick letters one at a time: every correct letter appears in place, and every miss puts out one of six lamps. Reveal the whole word before the lamps go dark. It is a friendly take on an old pencil-and-paper game.
How to play Letter Drop
- Pick a letter. If it is in the word, every copy of it appears in place.
- If it is not, one of the six lamps goes out.
- Reveal the whole word before all six lamps go out.
- Fewest misses wins, then the fastest time.
Tips & strategy
- Start with the most common letters in English: E, A, R, I, O, T, N and S.
- Once a few letters show, study the pattern of blanks and think of words that fit it.
- Save rare letters such as J, Q, X and Z until the pattern points to them.
- Count your lamps. With only one or two left, pick letters you are sure about.
- Think about common word shapes: a double letter or an ending such as -ION or -NESS can unlock the rest.
