About Five Dice
Five Dice is the classic dice game of the score sheet: five dice, three rolls, thirteen boxes to fill and thirteen rounds to fill them. Keep the dice that help and roll the rest, then decide where the result does the least harm or the most good. Two to four players take turns, against robots (the Hard one works out the odds of every way to keep the dice), passing one phone round, or online with friends who join by code. The server rolls the dice online.
How to play Five Dice
- On your turn roll five dice, keep any you like and roll the rest, up to three rolls in all.
- Then score the dice in one empty box: ones to sixes, three or four of a kind, a full house, a small or large straight, five of a kind or chance. A box can be used once.
- Sixty-three points or more in the top six boxes earns a 35-point bonus; a second five of a kind earns 100. The highest total after thirteen rounds wins.
- Tap a die to keep it, Roll to roll the rest, then a box on your sheet. Results are saved on this device.
Tips & strategy
- Aim for 63 in the top six boxes (three of each number) and the 35-point bonus that comes with it.
- Use Chance and Ones as safety nets for bad rolls, and keep Five Dice open as long as you can.
- Four dice in a run are a small straight already; keep them and roll the fifth for the large one.
- Score big rolls in the big boxes: four of a kind in Chance is a waste.
Five Dice: questions and answers
What do the boxes score?
Ones to sixes add up that number; three and four of a kind add up all five dice; a full house is 25, a small straight 30, a large straight 40, five of a kind 50 and chance the total of the dice.
Can I put a zero in a box?
Yes. When nothing fits you must still fill one box, so choose the one you need least.
What about a second five of a kind?
If your Five Dice box already holds 50, another five of a kind earns a 100-point bonus and counts as a full house or straight in those boxes.
Who wins?
The highest total after thirteen rounds, bonuses included. Equal totals is a draw.
