Daily Mines

PracticeEasyPractice: not ranked
How to play
  • Tap a covered square to open it. A number tells how many of its eight neighbours hide a mine.
  • Long press or right click a square (or switch on Flag mode) to flag a mine. Tap an opened number whose mines are all flagged to open the rest round it.
  • The field can be cleared from the open start area by reasoning alone. Opening a mine costs a mistake, not the game.
  • Easy fields are 9 × 9 with 10 mines, medium 12 × 12 with 24 and hard 14 × 14 with 38. Fastest time wins; fewer mistakes break ties.

Practice puzzles are never ranked: they don’t count for leaderboards, streaks, statistics or achievements.

About Daily Mines

Daily Mines is the classic mine field puzzle with the luck taken out. Every square you open shows how many of its eight neighbours hide a mine, and from those numbers you work out which squares are safe and which ones to flag. The board starts with an open area round the start square, and each day’s field has been checked by a solver so that it can be cleared from there by reasoning alone: you never have to guess. Everyone gets the same field each day.

How to play Daily Mines

  1. Tap a covered square to open it. A number tells how many of its eight neighbours hide a mine.
  2. Long press or right click a square (or switch on Flag mode) to flag a mine. Tap an opened number whose mines are all flagged to open the rest round it.
  3. The field can be cleared from the open start area by reasoning alone. Opening a mine costs a mistake, not the game.
  4. Easy fields are 9 × 9 with 10 mines, medium 12 × 12 with 24 and hard 14 × 14 with 38. Fastest time wins; fewer mistakes break ties.

Tips & strategy

  • Start with the 1s at the edge of the open area. A 1 that touches only one covered square has found its mine.
  • A number whose mines are all flagged frees every other neighbour. Tap the number to open them all at once.
  • Compare neighbouring numbers: a 1 beside a 2 along a wall often decides three squares.
  • Near the end, count: the mines left on the counter can settle the last few squares.

Daily Mines: questions and answers

Do I ever have to guess?

No. Every daily field is tested by a solver before it is used, and only fields that can be cleared from the start area by logic alone are kept.

What happens if I open a mine?

The mine shows in red and counts as a mistake, but the game goes on. Fewer mistakes break ties between equal times.

How do I place a flag on a phone?

Long press the square, or switch on Flag mode below the board so that a tap flags instead of opening.

How is Daily Mines ranked?

By time, fastest first; fewer mistakes break ties. Only a member’s first finished game of the day is ranked.
