About Daily Word
Daily Word is our classic five-letter word puzzle. Everyone gets the same hidden word each day, so you can compare results with friends. Each guess shows which letters are in the right spot, which are in the word somewhere else, and which are not in it at all.
How to play Daily Word
- Type a five-letter word and press Enter. Every guess must be a real word.
- Each letter is marked: ✓ right letter in the right spot, ↔ in the word but in another spot, or not in the word at all.
- Letters can appear more than once. A letter is only marked as many times as it appears in the answer.
- You have six guesses. The on-screen keyboard shows what you have learned about each letter.
Tips & strategy
- Start with a word that uses five different common letters, such as one with two vowels and some of R, S, T, L and N.
- Use your second guess to test new letters instead of repeating ones you already know.
- Letters can repeat. If you are stuck, try a double letter such as EE, LL or SS.
- Check the keyboard: ruled-out letters are dimmed, so build your next guess from what is left.
Daily Word: questions and answers
When does a new Daily Word come out?
Every day at midnight Mountain Time. Everyone plays the same word on the same day, and earlier words stay in the archive for 60 days.
What do the marks on each letter mean?
A tick means the letter is in the right spot. Arrows mean it is in the word but in another spot. An unmarked letter is not in the word at all.
Do my guesses have to be real words?
Yes. Every guess must be a real five-letter English word from our list, which leaves out names, abbreviations and offensive words.
How is the Daily Word leaderboard ranked?
By the fewest guesses, with ties going to the faster time. Only a member’s first attempt on the day counts.
