About World Capitals Quiz
Canberra exists because Sydney and Melbourne could not agree which of them should be Australia’s capital, so a new city was planned between them. Capitals are full of stories like that, and the World Capitals Quiz asks about them from every continent. Some questions give you the country and ask for the capital, others give you the city and ask for its country. Each daily set opens with familiar capitals such as Ottawa and Tokyo, moves on to medium ones and ends with the capitals of smaller countries that catch most people out. Countries whose capital is disputed or being moved are left out.
How to play World Capitals Quiz
- Press Start for the first of ten questions. The clock starts with it and stops at your last answer.
- Each question names a country and asks for its capital, or names a capital and asks for its country.
- Tap an answer, or press 1 to 4 (or A to D) on a keyboard. Answers are final: you see the right one and a one-line explanation, then press Next.
- Most correct answers ranks first, then the fastest time. Only a member’s first finished quiz of the day counts for the leaderboard.
Tips & strategy
- The biggest city is often not the capital: think of Toronto and Ottawa, Sydney and Canberra, or Istanbul and Ankara.
- Learn capitals by region, a handful at a time, then use the regional capitals quizzes to practise one continent.
- Watch for countries with more than one capital, such as South Africa and Bolivia: the explanation tells you which city does what.
