About Solar System and Space Quiz

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune: if you can say the planets in order, you are ready for the warm-up. The Solar System and Space Quiz then explores moons, rings, comets and stars, odd facts such as the planet whose day is longer than its year, and the people and machines that explored space, from the first satellites to Canada’s Alouette 1, the Canadarm and Canadian astronauts. Moon counts that keep changing are left out, so every answer stays true as new discoveries come in.

Tips & strategy

  • A memory sentence for the planets in order makes many questions easy: try “My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos”.
  • The inner planets are small and rocky, the outer ones are giant balls of gas and ice: that rule rules out many wrong answers.
  • Many space “firsts” have a country and a year: link each mission to the space race of the 1950s and 1960s or to later decades.
