About National Animals and Birds Quiz

Canada chose the beaver, New Zealand the kiwi and Australia the kangaroo and the emu. The National Animals and Birds Quiz asks which animals stand for which countries, and which animals appear on national flags, coins and coats of arms, from the eagle and snake on the flag of Mexico to the Sisserou parrot on the flag of Dominica. Only official or well-established national symbols are used, so every answer can be checked: unofficial favourites and disputed choices were left out, and symbols that changed recently are worded with care.

Tips & strategy

  • Look at a country’s flag and coat of arms: many national animals appear on them, such as the dragon of Wales and the condor of the Andes.
  • Eagles are national birds for many countries, so the hard questions are about which eagle, or which other bird.
  • Island nations often choose a bird found only there, like the kiwi of New Zealand or the dodo on Mauritius’s coat of arms.

165 checked questions: 26 easy, 42 medium and 97 hard. Each day takes ten, easiest first, and a question doesn’t come back until its level has been used up.
